 Effects of Labor Market Status and Education on Subjective Well-Being of the Youth In Europe - (2015 Jan - Dec) Funded by CERGE EI GDN

Research fellow Judit Kálmán’s has won a one year research opportunity on the CERGE EI GDN research competition. She is analysing the wellbeing of youth in Europe, particularly the effects of their employment status and education - using EU SILC data recently released. The interim findings will be presented in a workshop in August 2015 in Prague.

Firms, Strategy and Performance - (2013-2018), Funded by HAS, Lendület program

Balázs Muraközy, head of the research unit introduced the goals and results of the team at HAS’s ‘Lendület’ Day. Muraközy said that participation in ‘Lendület’ program has fostered research in two fundamental ways: it made it possible to form a great research team and to get access to rich microdata sets. MIT Human Mobility and Networks Lab

Research fellow Balázs Lengyel won the award of the Rosztoczy Foundation to conduct post-doctoral research work at the MIT Human Mobility and Networks Research Lab in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Marta Gonzalez. See the website of the project: http://humnetlab.mit.edu/

Transition to a market-based economic structure in the post-communist countries of the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region since the early 1990s has been accompanied by intense IT-driven technological change. Internationalisation opportunities have emerged for IT sector small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) based on the region’s strong possession of technical skills. However, while enhanced SME internationalisation is desirable in policy terms, the current socio-economic transitional context of the region is not compatible with a highly competitive global business environment. This paper compares the distribution of jobs by complexity and firms' willingness to hire low-educated labour for jobs of varying complexity in Norway, Italy and Hungary. In investigating how unqualified workers can cope with complex jobs, it compares their involvement in various forms of post-school skills formation. Read more
